Friend-Link concert turns 21

Beginning in 1997, Members of St Margaret's College have put on an annual concert for Friend-Link Dunedin.

Friend-Link is an organisation which supports a network of people with and without disabilities in friendship and leisure activities. As part of St Margaret's longstanding tradition of community service, an annual concert is held at the College for the Friend-Link network.

The 21st concert was held on Friday, 15 September 2017 and included an hour-long programme of musical items (choir, piano, violin and cello) and a story with a funny ending performed by Member Michael Nichols. The concert's director was Morgan Cashmore, the Arts Representative on this year's Executive Committee.

The choir sang the beautiful hymn Abide with me and a wonderful medley of Abba songs. At the end of the concert, the appreciative audience demanded an encore and the choir repeated their Abba medley with the audience joining in enthusiastically.

After the concert, the College was presented with a lovely framed painting by one of the Friend-Link members, Allan Hegan, which we will hang on our wall for all to enjoy. Allan also gifted the College some of his note cards which feature his paintings.

The evening concluded with supper in the Norris Dining Hall which provided everyone with the opportunity to enjoy each others company together with some very tasty baking prepared by our Food Services Staff.
