Welcome to St Margaret's College!
A big congratulations to all of you guys! You made it! On behalf of the St Margaret's College Members’ Association's Executive Committee, I am so excited to welcome you to your new home away from home for 2027! While this feels like a big step to take, you won't be alone because we the Exec are here to cheer you on throughout your journey at Margs.
The Exec are a group of returning College Members who help ensure that your year is full of fun, moments to meet great people, good food, and tons of stories you will still be telling years to come.
You’re probably wondering you are the members of the the Exec are , so let me introduce them to you

- Treasurer: Susan Chen
- Arts Rep: Nyambay Kaitibie
- Cultural Rep: Bonnie Tang
- Food Rep: Seung Lee
- Social Rep: Sanomiya Sathasivam
- Sports Rep: Aiden Chai
We’ll also be joined by two first year reps, elected early in 2027. Wondering whether that could be you ? It absolutely could. So go for it!
Moving out and starting uni is something life changing that brings all the emotions of feeling excited and homesick at the same time. Here's how I like to think of it: you’re a seed and Margs is the garden, waiting for you to grow into something magical. Everything new here is the sunshine: the people, the chaos, and the traditions. Give it a few weeks and will have turned from that very seed into a strong flower. You’ll be wandering around the halls like you own the place! Remember, every single one of us started exactly where you were now.
To help make 2027 feel special, we lots of events in store for you. We can't give everything away just yet, but here's a sprinkling of what we have prepared:
- Inter-College Competition
- Mystery bus trip
- The Annual floor baking challenge
- Sock tag
There will be plenty more too...just be ready to expect laughter, memories, and pure joy.
For the year you’ll need some essentials and here's a few things to bring
- A white sheet for toga night (trust us)
- Things to help you unwind: an instrument, sports gear, books, art supplies, cards, a camera, etc
- Photos, posters, and reminders of home (plus drawing pins!)
- Wild, wacky accessories for theme dinners, and something smart for formal dinners
- A laundry basket or bag
- Slippers, jandals, or Crocs for showers and shuffling around College
- Warm clothes, a raincoat, a puffer jacket, and an umbrella, because the weather does what it likes
- Loads of free space on your phone, because you'll take so many photos
- And most importantly, your curiosity and sense of adventure
Lastly, you’ll meet people from all across New Zealand and from around the world. None of them will be alike! That's actually the best part, because a garden isn't beautiful with only one kind of flower, but because all different kinds are growing together. So, say yes to things, make sure to step outside your comfort zone, and be your own authentic self.
We can't wait to meet every single one of you and let 2027 be the year Margs becomes not just a place to sleep, but one where you belong!
