Life at St Margaret's
Your home away from home
Since it was established in 1911, St Margaret’s College has developed an enviable reputation for excellence.
It is well-known as a quiet, warm, and friendly home away from home, where residents develop a strong sense of belonging and develop as confident, connected, and content individuals.
Nau mai, Tomo mai ki Te Kāreti o Makere Tapu
St Margaret’s College is committed to welcoming and caring for people from all cultures. The College has always been a caring foundation and proudly proclaims its welcome to tangata whenua.
We have links with both Te Huka Mātauraka and the Pacific Islands Centre at the University of Otago and encourage members to contact them for specialist support and resources, as well as information regarding available scholarships.
Te Roopū Māori, the Māori Students' Association, is also welcome at the College, and we invite members to connect with them.
Te Tumu, School of Māori, Pacific, and Indigenous Studies, also has close links with the College. Professor Tania Kai’ai, a former dean, is a Fellow of the College, and another former dean, Professor Michael Reilly, was a resident at St Margaret’s for ten years
