Residential life
Centrally located on campus, St Margaret’s College provides an exceptional level of care and a family-like atmosphere for our members. We’re proud to provide a community where members develop a strong sense of belonging and have every opportunity to continue becoming confident, connected, and content individuals.
Orientation week
Welcome to St Margaret's
Kicking off with the excitement of move-in weekend, which includes a welcome function and BBQ dinner for new members and their families, Orientation Week is jam-packed with all sorts of events to help you settle in and make friends.
Some of the fun events include social games, a scavenger hunt, a toga-themed party and dinner, Greek games, floor Olympics, a quiz night, fun debating, and a movie night.
On the more serious side, you’ll attend a Uni 101 talk, wellness talks, and preliminary lectures to help you settle into university life.

Community initiatives
We place a high emphasis on community involvement and encourage our members to get involved in various initiatives throughout the year.
During orientation week, members take part in a community service project in the local area. In the past, these have included helping to build an entire house for Habitat for Humanity, working with Te Araiteuru Marae, and assisting at the Orokonui Ecosanctuary.
Towards the end of the year, we host an evening of performances for Friend-Link, an organisation that helps people with special needs make friends. This is a great night of entertainment for them and is always a highlight of the year for the performers.
Members are also encouraged to participate in volunteer activities facilitated by the University’s Social Impact Studio.
