Studying at Otago over the summer 2018?

St Margaret's is one of the only Colleges open for accommdation from for the 2018 summer school period. If you are looking at brushing up on your physics or chemistry before starting health science, or taking a summer school paper then we can accommodate you!

Accommodation is available from 12 noon on Sunday, 7 January 2018 to 9 am on Friday, 16 February.


Fees are charged up front for the duration of your stay. The cost is $59.00 per day for full board, due in full 2 weeks before your arrival.

Total costs is dependent on the course you are studying. As an example, below are the prices for the three most common courses:

Payment must be made directly to St Margaret’s College (not the University). Fees may be paid by cash (in person), cheque, direct credit, EFTPOS, or credit card (a 3% surchage applied). The College reserves the right to charge a $25 administration fee for incorrectly referenced direct credit payments.

Please note that we are unable to accommodate weekly payments.

Any student who leaves St Margaret’s College prior to February 16th 2018 shall receive a pro-rated refund (subject to any deductions for damage they may have caused or contributed to).


Students may arrive at the College from 10am on the Sunday.  All students must vacate their rooms by 9 am on Friday, 17 February (this is not negotiable), although bags may be stored at the College until 5pm. If you are moving to another College for the full year we will organise with the other College for you to move in on 19th February.  You may need to organize your own transport however some Colleges do make transport available. We will advise more details during that last week at St Margaret’s.

Upon arrival you will be met by one of our student staff who will show you to your room, and give you a tour of the College.  You will be issued with a key to your room and a key tag to allow you access to the College after hours. The College front door is locked daily from 11pm until 7am. On your first or second evening there will be a brief orientation session for all summer students in residence at the College.  This will familiarise you with the summer student staff and give you time to ask any questions.

A College handbook will be issued to all students upon their arrival at the College. Students are expected to familiarise themselves with the contents of this handbook as it outlines everything that the student may expect from St Margaret’s College and everything that St Margaret’s expects from its students. The College reserves the right to ask people to leave the College immediately where their behaviour is such that it interferes with others’ rights or is not in keeping with that expected of students at St Margaret’s College.


All rooms at the College are single rooms with shared facilities. Bedding is provided but students may wish to bring their own. The College has a laundry available for students at no charge but students are required to provide their own laundry powder.


Wireless internet is available from all rooms and is included in the cost.


You are welcome to have people in the College during the day but all visitors must leave by 11pm. There are to be no visitors taken into the dining room for meals.


The consumption of alchol within the College building and grounds is not permitted at any time during the summer accommodation period.
