A celebration of collegiate song

St Margaret's choir sang two items in the eighth Big College Sing held at University College on the evening of Sunday, 24 September 2017.

In the past seven years, choirs and vocal groups from the University 's colleges have descended on UniCol for an evening concert and “celebration of song”. This year, St Margaret's was one of ten participating colleges and a wonderful variety concert was enjoyed by all.

Each attending college performs one or two numbers with a concluding mystery number where everyone joins in, led by the Master of UniCol, Mr Chris Addington on his guitar. This year it was the turn of John Denver's Take me home, country roads.

The Big College Sing is not a competition and there are no judges. The prize is the shared applause and congratulations from the audience.

The St Margaret's choir's two items were Hambalulu and a lively Abba medley expertly arranged by choir conductor and pianist, Richard Gayfer. Call me biased, but I reckon the applause for our choir's two items was the loudest of all the songs at the concert! Our choir was also the biggest group at the concert.

Following the concert, scones with strawberry jam and cream were well-received by the audience. An impromptu sing-along around the UniCol piano, played by our Member Richard Gayfer, was enthusiastically led by a few Members of  St Margaret's choir.

Well done, St Margaret's choir, on yet another outstanding performance!
