Relay For Life is an overnight walking event that brings teams of friends, work colleagues and families together in a fun, carnival like atmosphere to fundraise for the Cancer Society. St Margaret's College Members walked a total of 362 laps or 144.8 km.
Relay for Life is a time to celebrate and remember loved ones affected by cancer -
and to fight back by raising awareness and funds for the Cancer Society.
The 24-hour event took place at Dunedin's Caledonian Stadium (just a short walk from the College), starting at mid-day on Saturday, 17 March 2018. The weather was perfect for the event, with plenty of sun and little wind.
Executive Committee
Treasurer, Wanli Cheng, did a marvellous job in encouraging a large number of our Members to participate in the event, namely 47. Wanli himself walked most of the 24 hours while others were rostered for various shifts. Together they raised $422.27 for the Cancer Society, a fantastic effort. This included donations received via baking that participants had made and sold during the preceding week.
As can be seen from the accompanying photos, the St Margaret's distinctive green and gold gazebo became home base and was fitted out with a table, chairs, sleeping bags and of course food.
A huge amount of organisation goes into making an event like this a success. The College is very thankful to Wanli and his support crew for all their work and enthusiasm, and all those who participated in walking 144.8 km for such a wonderful cause. Well done everyone!
