Saturday morning was a very early 3.30 am start for those Members participating in the College’s Mystery Bus Trip.
The Mystery Bus Trip is an annual event organised by Student Executive Committee, in particular the Vice-President, who this year is Tetsu Konishi. Part of the intention of the trip is to provide Members with an opportunity to venture forth beyond the immediate confines of the campus and see some of Dunedin’s other attractions.
While last year’s Trip occurred during daylight hours, in 2019 Tetsu was determined to incorporate a spectacular sunrise for the Members. How he managed to choose just the right day (Saturday, 4 May) I don’t know but the busload of Members was treated to an awesome sunrise, viewed from St Kilda beach, before Members walked the 1.5 km up the beach to St Clair. Members got on the bus at the College at 3.30 am not knowing where they would be taken for their six-hour journey! This year, they discovered that the Glow-worm Caves were the first port of call followed by the world’s steepest street, Baldwin Street. Nothing like a pre-dawn hike up a steep hill to wake up!
After a bit of early morning huffing and puffing, it was back on the bus to travel to St Kilda’s beach for the wonderful sunrise as the accompanying photos attest. Only in Dunedin!
Finally, Tunnel Beach just outside of Dunedin was a great way to end the journey as it has some incredible features to enjoy. Who would have thought that this place even existed so close to Dunedin?
