Congratulations on your acceptance into St Margaret's College! Myself, along with the rest of the 2019 Student Executive (Exec), would like to warmly welcome you to our home away from home. We are really excited to meet you all over the coming year and hope you will come to love this awesome community as much as we do.
The Exec are a group of enthusiastic group of returning members who are committed to helping you get the most out of your first year here at the University of Otago. We are here to help you all settle in, make lifelong friendships and provide support during the year.
Alongside those run by the Otago University Students Association (OUSA), we have a lot of fun events planned during O-week such as the beach trip, quiz night, and amazing race, as well as many more throughout the year. We will also be joined by two first-year reps who will be elected at the beginning of 2019.
A few pieces of advice: bring with you an old sheet and safety pins for our toga dinner, things to personalise your room such as photos, duvets or poster, maybe a few items that could come in handy at our themed dinners later in the year and running shoes for the inter-college sports day, also your boots if you’re a keen footballer. But most importantly bring with you an open mind, and a willingness to dive headfirst into all the new experiences this year will offer. From new friendships, participation in a wide range of events and a new independence.
I have loved my first year at St Margaret's and I’m sure you will too. Congratulations once again, we are all so excited for the great year that lies ahead.
