St Margaret's College had over 50 Members participate in the University of Otago's Relay for Life Event on Friday, 30 March. Together, the team raised over $4000 for the Cancer Society.
Relay for Life is a series of events that are held all over the country to raise money for the Cancer Society and to celebrate and remember those who have been affected by cancer. Participants walk or run as a team from 6:00 pm in the evening to 6:00 am the next morning, as well as attend a special opening ceremony.
The University of Otago hosts New Zealand’s only student-led Relay for Life event and St Margaret’s was extremely proud to have our 51-strong team giving it their all as they ran and walked around campus throughout the evening.
Under the organisation of Dexin Kong, the Treasurer of our Student Executive, St Margaret’s had a strong presence and managed to raise $4135.04 for the Cancer Society, which was the fourth highest of the 56 registered teams. Dexin is very grateful to all those who participated throughout the evening for their dedication and enthusiasm. He also wanted to say thank you to the wider College community for their extremely generous fundraising support.
There was a great energy from the 1000 individuals participating in the event right throughout the evening and as can be seen by the accompanying photos, our Members thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
A huge thank you to our Student Executive, and in particular Dexin, for driving the fantastic participation in this community event. We are very proud that we have so many Members who are willing to volunteer their time and energy to such an important cause.
