Along with other students from around Otago, Marg's members contributed to raising over $121,000 for the local Cancer Society last weekend in the annual Relay for Life, walking and running laps of the University clock tower area for 12 hours straight!
On the 25th and 26th of March, our College participated in Relay for Life – an event organised and run by the Cancer Society. The event was very lively and had a great buzz to it! There were a plethora of gazebos and tents that dotted the lawn in front of the iconic Unversity of Otago Clocktower including our very own College gazebo – complete with beanbags and vines of fairy lights adding to the warm atmosphere.
Relay for Life is a yearly event where teams and individuals gather to unite against cancer and help support funding for initiatives that help the Cancer Society including cancer research. It was great to see Cancer Warriors and Carers at the event helping motivate the participants.
The University Clocktower was also lit up in a brilliant purple light to help match the classic event colour. Overall, it was a great opportunity for our Members to get together for a good cause and to meet new people in the Dunedin community. It was great that as a College we raised over $3000 towards the total and it was humbling to be part of an event that has such a positive impact on the community.
We are looking forward to participating in Relay for Life again next year to carry on the fight against cancer!
