We were thrilled to start our big O-week by welcoming our new friends into the College!
We dived straight into O-week events on Sunday night with Speed Friendship. Never have we ever heard the Dining Hall so loud! At that moment we were so sure that we were going to have an amazing week and year ahead with our new friends :)
Monday consisted of an Amazing Scavenger Hunt Race, running through the College and campus searching for sites with our mentor groups. Teamwork, speed, and creativity definitely sparked in the teams - we loved seeing it! That night we held a baking competition, and though the results consisted of the exec consuming cookies that were drier than the sand at St Clair beach, seeing each floor bond was worth it.
Tuesday was the big Inter-College Sports Day! There was lots of cheering and participation across the colleges. The sports being played included netball, touch, football, and volleyball. It was so great to see the ‘I’ll give it a go' attitude displayed by the Members. On Tuesday night we held the quiz night - the dining hall filled once again. The quizzes on baby photos, St Margarets' history, and general knowledge had everyone chatting, laughing, and sometimes confused!
A jammed-packed Wednesday started off with our Love Your Backyard College Community Project. We spread our love across the Botanic Garden, urban areas, and Chingford Park, picking up rubbish, taking out weeds, and cleaning up rubbish.
The Toga Party on Wednesday night was a hit! The Dining Hall and Valentine Common Room (VCR) were transformed into an ancient Greek city and on top of the amazing Greek-themed food the kitchen staff had made, the night consisted of gladiator fights, karaoke (late at night), and a paint fight in the rain! This was definitely an unforgettable night.
Thursday night in the VCR was the Spicy Noodle Challenge. Within seconds the contestant’s mouths were on fire and our 3 milk jugs were empty. Congratulations to the brave ones who ate the 3x spicy noodles.
On Friday night the annual floor Olympics were held, where the competitiveness of individuals was revealed. The teamwork, communication, and cheering filled the College and brought us great joy and satisfaction.
To wrap up our busy week we ended with an O-week prize-giving, where we recognized those who had won the challenges held throughout the week. Following the prizegiving was a movie night, showing the classic Tangled!
A huge thank you to all the Members that participated throughout O-week - it would not have been as fun without the members. We thoroughly enjoyed planning and seeing the friendships and enjoyment among the members. We are so pumped for the events in 2023!
