Welcome to St Margaret's College

Congratulations on your acceptance into St Margarets College and welcome to your new home away from home. On behalf of the 2023 Members’ Association Executive Committee, we would like to welcome you with open arms. We are so excited to get to know you all in 2023!

What is the Members’ Executive? Mainly known as the ‘exec team’, we are a group of 9 returning members whose job is to make your first-year experience at Margs the best ever!

I know moving away from home and making new friends can be nerve-racking and scary. This is why the Exec and OUSA (Otago University Students’ Association) are here to organise lots of fun events throughout the year where you can really immerse yourself in the community of Margs, get to know each other, and make lifelong friends. Examples of some of the events during the year are, to name a few, the Amazing Race, beach trip, sock tag, Mystery Bus tour, and our annual ski trip.

We also want you guys to have a chance to be part of this fun team, and at the beginning of semester 1 the college elects two first-year reps to join our exec fam - this could be you!! ;)

The rest of the 2023 Exec are:

  • Arts Rep - Ajani Grimstrup
  • Cultural Rep - Jatin Kalra
  • Food Rep - Alan Zhu
  • Secretary - Jenny Bahng
  • Social Rep - Genelle Ventura
  • Sports Rep - Toby Ingold
  • Treasurer - Jung Woo Yi
  • Vice President - Jojo Ngu

To make special memories here at Margs, here are some things I suggest you bring:

  • An old white sheet for toga night ‘whoop whoop’
  • An instrument (if you have one) to perform at Formal Dinners
  • A speaker to play some vibey tunes with mates
  • Some things that remind you of home
  • A picnic blanket (if you have one)
  • A bunch of random accessories/costumes for themed dinners
  • Things to personalise your room like photos/posters to put on the pinboard, a duvet cover, and fairy lights
  • A variety of shoes for our fun events! e.g football boots or running shoes
  • Slides/jandals/slippers (handy for showering and wearing around the college)
  • Laundry basket or bag!
  • Pack of cards to play with others
  • Make room in your phone to capture lots of memories and photos
  • Warm clothing (you never know when it’s going to snow)
  • Diffuser to make your room smell nice and fresh (no essential oil vapourisers though - they set off the smoke alarms).
  • Stuff for downtime activities e.g. paints, skateboard, books etc.

We are so excited for all of you guys to come! Being part of a college is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I encourage you to participate in as many events as possible and become an active member at the heart of Margs! You get to meet so many people from all over New Zealand and the world and learn about various cultures.

2023 is the year to step out of your comfort zone and try new things, make new friends, and have the best first year of uni ever!!

We can’t wait to meet you guys!!
