As many will know, regular Wednesday Expert Breakfasts and Sunday Formal Dinners are unique features of St Margaret's College.
Twice each year, in autumn and spring, I circulate an Update newsletter for parents, caregivers and guardians to help keep them informed about life at the College. Thank you for reading this autumn edition which I hope you will enjoy.
All are reminded that at the end of the academic year in November, Members should leave 24 hours after their last exam or Sunday, 10 November 2019, whichever date is the earliest.
Associate Professor Christine Jasoni is an accomplished researcher, teacher and enthusiastic science communicator, and we were treated to an excellent demonstration of those qualities, along with her engaging sense of humour.

The Inter-college Musical Jam 2019 took place in front of a large and enthusiastic audience in the University's Marama Hall on Sunday, 7 April at 7.30 pm with five St Margaret's Members performing four items.
The Norris Dining Hall at the College became The Great Hall at Hogwarts for a fun-filled special theme dinner on Saturday, 6 April.
In a talk judiciously sprinkled with subtle witticisms, Assoc Prof Kjærgaard fascinated those present with an account of his life and work to date.
St Margaret's College had over 50 Members participate in the University of Otago's Relay for Life Event on Friday, 30 March. Together, the team raised over $4000 for the Cancer Society.
Tony’s well-known exuberance, humour, enthusiasm and intellect that have earned him numerous teaching prizes were well illustrated in this informative talk on learning and teaching.
On Sunday 10th March, New Zealand celebrated Commonwealth Day which was commemorated with civic services held around the world.
Elections for the two first-year reps on the Executive Committee occurred over the weekend with Mihaya Chan and Alex Dykes being voted in by Members.
The St Margaret's futsal team won two of their three games in the initial part of the futsal festival held on Sunday, 24 March. This meant that they qualified to play in the finals for third or fourth place.
Prof. Patman’s expertise in International Politics, among other things, is well known - and this talk was remarkable in that he gave an interview (recorded) on National Radio at the same time as talking to members of the College.
Dr Simon Cox, one of the Principal Scientists at GNS (https://www.gns.cri.nz/) made several points of significant importance for students - and his acceptance of the invitation was influenced in part by the reports of SMC members cleaning out the Leith.
Dr. Bird, a Teaching Fellow in Anatomy, followed her Teaching Excellence award from this University with a National award for Sustained Excellence in Tertiary Teaching - both in 2018.
The “Super Sixers” Inter-College Cricket Competition was run as a festival day on Sunday, 3 March at Kensington Oval with the St Margaret's team taking third place in the recreational division.
The weather was perfect on Wednesday, 20 February for St Margaret’s annual toga party.
Most of the College's 224 Members participated in the University's Sports Day during Orientation Week. And what a fabulous day it was.
On Sports Day during Orientation Week, St Margaret's College Members were part of a very special photo, taken by a drone, to help mark the University's 150th birthday.
The weather on Wednesday, 20 February was perfect to launch the College's community services efforts for 2019 when over 200 Members participated in our "Love the Leith" project.
