The 2018 Exec is doing an amazing job

The Executive Committee (known as the Exec) of the St Margaret's College Residents Association fulfills a hugely important role in the social, cultural and sporting life of the College, all of which contribute to making the College a vibrant community. And his year's Exec is setting a very high standard in this regard.

Formal Dinners and Expert Breakfasts

As many will know, regular Wednesday Expert Breakfasts and Sunday Formal Dinners are unique features of St Margaret's College.

Well-earned win!

Our gaming team won all their League of Legends games including the final over the weekend of 17 March. The gaming competition is part of the University's Inter-college Cultural and Sporting Competitions.

End-of-year departure date

All are reminded that at the end of the academic year in November, Members should leave 24 hours after their last exam or Sunday, 11 November 2018, whichever date is the earliest.

144.8 km walked in Relay for Life

Relay For Life is an overnight walking event that brings teams of friends, work colleagues and families together in a fun, carnival like atmosphere to fundraise for the Cancer Society. St Margaret's College Members walked a total of 362 laps or 144.8 km.

Each year, the Kitchen at St Margaret's engages a qualified nutritionist to assess our meals so that we can be sure we are providing good healthy food for our Members.

St Margaret's takes the quiz trophy!

What a great start to the University's Inter-college Cultural Competition this year: one of the College's three quiz teams won the Inter-college Quiz Competition which was held at University College on Sunday evening, 4 March 2018.

Loving the Leith

At 10 am on Saturday morning, 3 March 2018, around 50 Members of St Margaret's College assembled on the banks of the Water of Leith for a safety briefing before being split up into five groups to begin a clean-up of the river and its banks.

Cricket festival accomplishment

The St Margaret's cricket team won all three of their games to reach the finals in the Recreational Division of the Inter-college Cricket Festival held on Sunday afternoon, 4 March 2018.

Kicking for the surface

On Thursday evening during Orientation Week, the College hosted wellbeing expert Dr Denise Quinlan who presented an informative and interactive session to College Members on practical strategies to protect and support wellbeing.

To the beach we go...

In recent years, the Executive's beach trip was held a little later in the first semester. This year, however, the Executive decided to hold it on the final Sunday (25 February 2018) of Orientation Week.

Chinese New Year celebrated in style

The 2018 Executive Committee arranged with the Kitchen at St Margaret's to present a special themed dinner on Thursday, 22 February to celebrate the Chinese New Year.

Toga party, fun and food

Despite the unseasonal cold and rainy weather caused by ex-cyclone Gita, Members of St Margaret's College enjoyed an indoor toga party and Greek games at the College on Wednesday, 21 February.

All good to go!

Over the summer, 44 rooms on two floors of the College's Ross Wing were entirely refurbished. And today, Wednesday, 14 February 2018, the rooms are ready for occupation, much to the relief of staff and the excitement of those returning Members who have already arrived for the 2018 academic year. Tonight will be their first nights in brand new rooms.

The College is looking forward to opening day on Saturday, 17 February 2018 when we will welcome 125 first-year Members and 99 returning Members. The College Leaders have penned a special welcoming message for them:

Room RC140 reveals some history

When the wall linings to room RC140 at St Margaret's College were removed during the current renovations, the builders noticed that a few names had been written on the exposed wall including the date 1945.

Renovations on schedule

Excellent progress is being made with the refurbishment of 44 Member bedrooms in the Ross Wing of the main building at St Margaret's College.

New entrance sign for College

The College is very grateful to the 2017 Executive Committee for their generous gift of a new sign which was installed this week at the main entrance to the College.

Refurbishment about to begin

The scaffolding is up in anticipation of next week's start of the third stage of the College's four-year refurbishment programme of the older main building.

Pleasant outdoor final meeting

Dunedin's present heatwave prompted the Master to convene an outdoor meeting of the Welfare Staff on 31 October, accompanied of course by ice creams from the infamous Rob Roy Dairy.
