Expert Breakfast Report for 9 May 2018: Dr Steve Tripp, Dept of Physiology

An unusual and fascinating presentation, this. Dr. Tripp is a Medical Teaching Fellow in the Physiology Department, a post he has held for over 4 years. He spent 7 years working in Cambodia, where an outstanding feature of his work was to look for the heart of the problems faced by ordinary people, and attempt to address some of those fundamental causes. And runs ultra-marathons on the side.

Mystery Bus Trip a huge success

On Saturday 21 April, the College’s Student Executive organised a Mystery Bus Trip for the first-year Members of the College.

The College’s performance in last evening’s Inter-college Maori/Pasifika Concert has taken St Margaret’s to the top of the table in the University’s Inter-college Cultural Competition.

The College reaches out to an African village

On Sunday, 13 May the College launched a special project to raise funds for the desperately poor Kayima Clinic in Sierra Leone. This outreach is part of the College’s international community service work for 2018.

College Choir sings at University Graduation Thanksgiving Service

The College's talented choir, ably conducted by Ellen Walters, provided a wonderful rendition of Michael Jackson's "Heal the world, make it a better place" at a special Graduation Service of Thanksgiving on Saturday, 12 May.

Mastering the chess

The College's two-member chess team mastered the Inter-college Chess Competition on Sunday, 6 May 2018 and brought the trophy back home!

Inter-college Sports Competition in full swing

The University's Inter-college Sports Competition got underway just after Easter and, like last year, St Margaret's Members are taking part in the first semester's netball, soccer and volleyball competitions.

Off to a good start

As the first semester is flying by with the mid-semester break already upon us, I thought now was an ideal opportunity to provide an update for parents, caregivers and guardians about life at the College over the first six weeks of the first semester.

As I write this piece on a 24 degree end-of-March day, it feels more like summer than autumn. Giving the season away, however, are the darker mornings and dropping leaves, and of course the imminent Easter mid-semester break.
