Communication Cup contested
College Member Alex Kay's three minute speech on the topic "A different way to be" was awarded first prize in the Communication Cup competition held at the College on Saturday, 27 July 2019.
Despite her engagingly modest and often witty approach, Emaediong Uko already has an impressive track record notably in contributing to the development of drought tolerant rice varieties, and helping - and continuing to help - rural communities in Nigeria fight AIDS.
In a lively and interesting session, Prof Colombo compared university education here and in the USA, the advisability of gaining as wide an education as possible, developing generic skills and his teams research on how memory is coded in the brain.
"The Fellows Dinner last night was wonderful - thank you. The calibre of members was impressive, as was their palpable positivity. The College is clearly in good heart. I always enjoy catching up with other Fellows and appreciate the opportunity to get to know more members over a delicious dinner."
Associate Professor Christine Jasoni is an accomplished researcher, teacher and enthusiastic science communicator, and we were treated to an excellent demonstration of those qualities, along with her engaging sense of humour.
